Water and urban resilience: planning the futur of metropolitan areas

The COP21 has highlighted the relevance of water resources for meeting the sustainability challenge. Social, economic and climate changes are worsening the impact of issues such as unstable hydrogeological arrangements, phreatic aquifer raising and storm water discharges, which requires a new multidisciplinary approach and multilevel governance. A strong connection between territorial planning and water management is thus needed.

The conference pursues two goals: to further develop the European and Italian debate on the role of water management in the creation of sustainable development strategies, and to present a number of pilot projects, promoted by Gruppo CAP, which experiment rainwater management solutions and exploit the interaction between urban and rural environments.

Speakers include city representatives from Malmö, Lyon, Barcelona, Rotterdam and Essen, and the international experts of WAREG, OECD, De Urbanisten, CNR, as well as the Universities of Milano, Bologna, Pavia and Firenze. An interpretation service from/to English, French and Italian will be available.
